Department of Engineering’s Welton Evans is charged with taking care of routine maintenance at BWH—tasks that he tackles with a smile. Evans has been a member of BWH’s Engineering Department since 1970 and is being recognized as this month’s Service Hero.
A typical day for Evans involves completing work orders for maintenance and repair on the pods. The two main areas of focus for Evans are the Oncology pods and Tower 11.
“Welton immediately responds to requests for all maintenance work, especially when the repairs affect patients,” said Karen Conley, RN, MS, AOCN, program director, Pediatric Oncology. “Welton has excellent customer service skills and is a role model for all staff who do not provide direct patient care, but who do make a difference.”
“Welton is always dependable and his pleasant demeanor with staff and patients enhance the quality of his work,” said Carol Corbett, RN, nurse educator, Tower 11. “We know that if he is on the job, it will get done in a thorough and timely manner.”
“It makes me feel good that people think highly of me. I take great pride in a job well done,” said Evans.
